Russian Rocket Go Boom, Whoopsy
Thankfully, no one was injured. Except for the rocket scientists, who received a flogging.
Leo Tolstoy’s Theory of History
A wonderful description of how Tolstoy states the “great men and women” of history don’t have nearly the power over history as many people believe.
I believe that there are Einsteins, Aristotles, Jesuses, Ghengis Khans, Napoleons, and Hitlers born all the time. The problem is that they are born in the wrong place and time. Maybe they don’t have the right motivation, like a wacked-out mother and a large sum of money in Howard Hughes’ case. Maybe they’re born and raised in a society that forces them into a certain role, like in a small town or tribe in the middle of nowhere. Or maybe you have someone with the brain (and body) of Stephen Hawking born in a time when that person would be cast aside, maybe left to die, instead of being cultivated for their knowledge. Or maybe the person simply doesn’t believe in themselves, and have no one to motivate them, to prop them up, to allow them to really bloom.
The fact that more and more humans are allowed to grow to their full potential is the real push of technology within the last 150 years, and it will continue to push us further into the centuries to come, if we don’t all kill each other first.
Fishermen Save Dog Stuck on Ice Floe
A tiny bit more detail is found at the following link…which I can’t embed due to browser troubles. So you’ll have to copy/paste. http://twentytwowords.com/2013/02/20/fishermen-save-dog-stranded-on-an-ice-floe-in-the-frigid-okhotsk-sea/

Winnie the Pooh – In Its Original Russian
I’m just kidding of course, since it was an English author who created the bear. However, this version (despite looking drastically different from any other version of Pooh out there), is more closely based on the original books than the Disney version.
