Frank Mills – Music Box Dancer

I know I’m going to jeopardize my street cred, but I spent about 2 hours hunting for this dang song tonight. It was playing in the background of a game on ArmorGames.com, and it was bugging the everloving crap out of me. Finally, when I had tried playing it on a virtual piano, then on a song-finder app, I finally remembered it was on the ice cream truck on movie Kill Bill Vol. 1. Thanks to IMDB, I finally found it.

Now what? I found this sappy 70’s song…yet it’s so catchy. I guess I’ll download it. At least it occupied me for an evening. I mean, I’m working 40 hours a week, and going to school 16-24 hours a week, I have nothing else to occupy my time, right?

The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon by Richard Gale

I may have posted this sometime in the past, but it’s really wonderful. I watch it once every few months, especially when I just want to see someone have a really bad day. I wish I could send someone like this guy after people I know, or I wish I had the hex powers of the Scarlet Witch from Marvel lore. You know, to make a bunch of random and annoying things happen to certain people for a period of time. Not kill them…just irritate them. And so I watch this, and imagine wistfully.

Topic of Conver: My 2 Fav CG Music Videos

Def Leppard – Let’s Get Rocked

This looks horribly primitive by today’s standards, but I still love the bop that kid does when Joe Elliott sings, “Not my style man”. Plus, this was the first video with a computer generated character that I was able to connect with.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication

When I was watching the Japanese earthquake footage for the first time, this video’s climax flashed in my head. It might seem a bit tasteless, but it was the first thing my mash of brain tissue went to. I’m still amazed by this video’s attention to detail, in making it seem like this could be a playable game. Which I would still love to play.

Why are we bombing Libya?

So…if we’re bombing Libya, why ‘aren’t’ we bombing Yemen? link

Also…why are we bombing Libya? We aren’t Team America: World Police. Also (yeah, I know I just did an ‘also’), I didn’t vote for the guy who is supposed to do this. I voted for the guy who was going to stop doing this for a while, or at least try to cut back. I’m not stupid, I know I live in America, and America just does this. We’ve been doing this since the Korean War, that is, creating conflicts where we don’t necessarily need to do so. There are world conflicts all the time. We can try to help, but we can’t, and shouldn’t, control the world. We have to do the best we can to be the best we can be, and offer humanitarian aid when and where we can, as much as we possibly can.

Bombing Libya, which doesn’t pose an immediate threat to the United States (other than a mangy dog in the street growling at our passing car would pose a threat) is not really a great idea. It’s a freaking terrible idea.

Why are we bombing Libya? Is it the oil? Don’t we have enough? Is it somehow a backdoor into Iran?

Why are we bombing Libya? Isn’t this ridiculous? We are in 2 rather sizable conflicts. We have financial, and more importantly, human investments in two very dangerous parts of the world. We might be bombing now, but eventually we’ll have to send ground forces into yet another dangerous environment.

Why are we bombing Libya? Why aren’t we bombing the half-dozen other countries that are having serious conflicts right now?

Why the HELL ARE WE BOMBING LIBYA?! “To save the lives of protesters” is not good enough! I was in the military, and the first goal of the military is to preserve the existence of the country that the military answers to. If there isn’t some perceived threat against the United States, like terrorist camps (of which there seems to be an interesting LACK OF in the country of Libya), or an ICBM facility, or something, anything, other than oil production facilities, then why are we in Libya?

America is rich. INSANELY rich. So rich that I turn the fact that my ATM asks me whether I want my menus in English or Spanish into an ordeal that I share with 10+ people throughout my day. I don’t have to worry about eating, or where to spend the night, or whether my family will get shot to death by a rival tribe. Isn’t it just a little greedy to drop bombs into another country, which hasn’t acted aggressively toward us since the 1980’s other than to badmouth us or to threaten to cut off oil supplies? Shouldn’t other countries have the right to turn off the spigot of oil to the United States if they want to? Shouldn’t it be our responsibility as Americans to find some other fuel source so we aren’t totally screwed every time some insane dictator tries to cut us off? And aren’t there a bunch of other countries that supply us oil that we can turn to?

Why are we bombing Libya? Please, Mr. President, give us a straight answer. It’s what you were supposed to be good at, being a straight-talker. So far I hear nothing but hogwash B.S.

Can you please answer this question?

New on the blogroll: Beauty & Change

I was looking for a picture of Chester Arthur (for a reason that will eventually become clear), and I stumbled upon this blog. I found the choice of pictures in the posts to be consistently funny, so I added this David Roche’s Beauty & Change blog to my blogroll.

Example:

This was labeled “Kare Bear Koitus”. Which makes me smile.

Link Dump

I’m out of time. My next 6-8 months worth of free time will likely be rubbish as I try to get some projects done and, oh yeah, attempt to graduate from college a couple months early. So, there will likely be a lot of mass link and picture dumps every 3-7 days for a while, instead of individual posts. If you need a fix in the meantime, there are plenty of absolutely great blogs and cool websites in my blogroll in the right column. In the meantime, here’s what I’ve come up with in the last few weeks:

The World’s Greatest Movie Stunts

The Terrifying Sequel to E.T.

Meanwhile, In The Dark Alley Behind The Hall of Justice… (mildly not safe for work)

A great visual effects demonstration.
Charlie Booker on Ghadafi.
Oscar ‘Best Picture’ winners ranked from worst to best.
The Simpsons song medley.
Don’t ask a computer programmer to go shopping…
Marshmallow People (from the creators of Charlie the Unicorn)
4 new Looney Toons cartoons
Scooby Doo meets The Teen Titans
The Neverending Story never ended for the bullies…
Bull jumps into a crowd at a Rodeo
Awesome Star Trek wallet (that’s TOS, not TMS or TNG or DS9 or VOY or ENT or TRB…or even TAS). (TRB is The ReBoot, by the way)
The art of camouflage.
How to fix some broken movie franchises in your DVD/Blu-ray collection (hint: it involves pretending certain movies never existed).
Elton John writes a song (on the spot) using words from an Oven manual.
Jesus loves the little Velociraptors.
Steve Wozniak’s counterfeit 2-dollar bills
Joe & the elephant…a touching story
Bjork explains television
127 seconds
FoxNews and the “no spin” unbiased but totally biased poll

My Mood (revised)

My last post on this subject had a diagram that was a bit hard to understand, so I revised it. It still doesn’t make a ton of sense, but let’s just say that I probably won’t return your greeting UNLESS you’re walking directly in front of me. Because I’m really tired, and really cranky.

(Except that I’m lying, since while I’ve been making these charts, my mood has subtley improved. So they are no longer accurate. However, if I continued to make mood-defining charts, my mood would likely worsen and so I’d be right back at this chart again. So I’ll leave it alone.)

My State Of Being, Right Now

I’m not explicitly trying to be a prick today. Just go away. Right now I’d rather create a pie-chart graphing the likelihood of my greeting you than actually greeting you.

Slime Mold Grows On Anything

No, really. Although I’ll attest that the slime mold in question has good taste. For a regular ol’ beer, you could do much worse than Yuengling. Not my favorite, but great on a hot day.

Another Cool Artist Dies

Via Bits & Pieces.

I’m embarrassed by how many artists I get interested in only because I found out they passed away. It isn’t really an obsession with their deaths. It’s the simple fact that they didn’t seem that important until they were dead. I mean, I did not ever have a chance to converse with a living River Phoenix, but the fact that there is zero possibility of my talking with him (unless there’s some social gallery in the afterlife, and he’s cool enough to let me talk his ear off for an eon or two) makes him seem all the more great.

This song is by Johnny Preston, written in 1959 when he was 19 or 20 years old. And it’s not bad, worthy of putting on my iPod at the very least. This song may not live for the ages, but it has lived for 50 years, and having heard it for the first time (that I remember), I kind of like it. It’s silly, maybe a bit antiquated in the treatment of Native Americans, but it’s good. For a pop song, that’s not bad at all.

Evil Wife Claws

I should note that I usually stab her with my toenails much more often then she slices my back with her fingernails. Not that I intentionally grow my toenails out, but it’s hard to remember to clip them all the time, especially since it’s hardly sandals weather yet.

Amazing Cross-Stitch Designs

Here are some amazingly cool retro computer-geeky cross-stitch designs people have come up with. Way cool, making me wish I had the patience to do some of this. I still want to do a death-metal latch hook design, probably a picture of Eddie from an Iron Maiden poster. Alas, it will never be. I’m too lazy and impatient.

Here’s the link to the designs over at Neatorama.
