So…if we’re bombing Libya, why ‘aren’t’ we bombing Yemen? link
Also…why are we bombing Libya? We aren’t Team America: World Police. Also (yeah, I know I just did an ‘also’), I didn’t vote for the guy who is supposed to do this. I voted for the guy who was going to stop doing this for a while, or at least try to cut back. I’m not stupid, I know I live in America, and America just does this. We’ve been doing this since the Korean War, that is, creating conflicts where we don’t necessarily need to do so. There are world conflicts all the time. We can try to help, but we can’t, and shouldn’t, control the world. We have to do the best we can to be the best we can be, and offer humanitarian aid when and where we can, as much as we possibly can.
Bombing Libya, which doesn’t pose an immediate threat to the United States (other than a mangy dog in the street growling at our passing car would pose a threat) is not really a great idea. It’s a freaking terrible idea.
Why are we bombing Libya? Is it the oil? Don’t we have enough? Is it somehow a backdoor into Iran?
Why are we bombing Libya? Isn’t this ridiculous? We are in 2 rather sizable conflicts. We have financial, and more importantly, human investments in two very dangerous parts of the world. We might be bombing now, but eventually we’ll have to send ground forces into yet another dangerous environment.
Why are we bombing Libya? Why aren’t we bombing the half-dozen other countries that are having serious conflicts right now?
Why the HELL ARE WE BOMBING LIBYA?! “To save the lives of protesters” is not good enough! I was in the military, and the first goal of the military is to preserve the existence of the country that the military answers to. If there isn’t some perceived threat against the United States, like terrorist camps (of which there seems to be an interesting LACK OF in the country of Libya), or an ICBM facility, or something, anything, other than oil production facilities, then why are we in Libya?
America is rich. INSANELY rich. So rich that I turn the fact that my ATM asks me whether I want my menus in English or Spanish into an ordeal that I share with 10+ people throughout my day. I don’t have to worry about eating, or where to spend the night, or whether my family will get shot to death by a rival tribe. Isn’t it just a little greedy to drop bombs into another country, which hasn’t acted aggressively toward us since the 1980’s other than to badmouth us or to threaten to cut off oil supplies? Shouldn’t other countries have the right to turn off the spigot of oil to the United States if they want to? Shouldn’t it be our responsibility as Americans to find some other fuel source so we aren’t totally screwed every time some insane dictator tries to cut us off? And aren’t there a bunch of other countries that supply us oil that we can turn to?
Why are we bombing Libya? Please, Mr. President, give us a straight answer. It’s what you were supposed to be good at, being a straight-talker. So far I hear nothing but hogwash B.S.
Can you please answer this question?
